Jane Callanan comments on the photo above: I believe that was probably taken on their honeymoon trip to meet the relatives in Malden, MA. It setting looks like the family home on Highland Ave to me. Also, I believe Mother was better dressed for her wedding. The flower in Daddy’s lapel is tricky. I’m not sure if ANY of Daddy’s family had come to DC for the wedding. As I recall the story from Mother, her honeymoon consisted of a driving trip to Boston area to meet the family and I think they also included a trip to Niagara Falls but I’m a little fuzzy on that.
Jane Callanan comments on the photo above: photo taken inside yard of family home on Magnolia
Jane Callanan comments on the photo above: Grandparents Katharine (Katie) and Thomas M. Harvey visiting El Centro, CA. Could that have been their first time to experience seeing oranges on the trees??? Note about that house: It was a house owned by Gentile Bros. Victor Gentile and his family lived there and moved to Orlando when Daddy was sent to take his place. I was able to visit that house in about 2008 when working in San Diego area.
Jane Callanan comments on the photo above: I believe the other woman in the photo is a local woman, Anna McManus who became a life-long family friend. Trivia note – I met her when she made a massive retirement trip alone, going by ship through Panama Canal to Miami, then by train to Orlando where we showed her all the hot spots, DisneyWorld, etc. After several days here, she was back on the train headed for the Northeast. This single lady had lived in So. Cal and in Colorado and had never been East at all. I’ll always remember her awe at all the trees especially in the Northeast and Midwest.
Jane Callanan comments on the photo above: I love that picture of Grandma Harvey and the way Rita is looking at Dick.
Jane Callanan comments on the photo above: I’m thinking Dick and Jack had made the trip to Lakeland to see Nancy. The setting is like other photos taken at the apt in Lakeland.
Jane Callanan comments on the photo above: Again, I love that smile on Grandma Harvey. This is how I remembered her.
Jane Callanan comments on the photo above: I remember coming home from school and going straight upstairs to poke at Nancy who had been napping; then come downstairs and tell them Nancy’s awake, can she get up. I enjoyed my role of Aunt right from the start!
